Alexander Waxenberg, CEO & President:
Alexander Waxenberg is a practicing attorney with 27 years experience. His emphasis has been Sports & Entertainment Law, as well as Civil and Business Litigation. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1988, where he was on the Dean’s List from 1986-88. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in 1992 and admitted to the California State Bar and the United States District Court that same year. In addition, he passed the Georgia State Bar in 1998. Since 1997 he has been a sole practitioner and has obtained jury verdicts in excess of $45 Million, and has obtained over $30 Million in settlements for his clients.
The National Basketball Association has certified Mr. Waxenberg for player contract negotiations since 1999. The Canadian Football Player’s Association, National Basketball Player’s Association and Women’s National Basketball Player’s Association have also certified him.
Mr. Waxenberg has been very active in the sports and entertainment industry having started working in Legal Affairs of the Motion Picture Features Division for Paramount Studios. He then became in house counsel for Jeff Hamilton Industries, responsible for negotiation of licensee agreements with major properties such as Reebok, Coca-Cola, NASCAR, NFL, NBA, MLS, NHL and Collegiate Licensing.
Sergey Smirnov, Vice President:
Sergey Victor is a practicing attorney with 20 years experience. His emphasis has been Criminal Law, as well as Civil and Business Litigation. He graduated from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles in 1989, where he was on the Dean’s List from 1988-89.
He earned his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in 1993 and admitted to the California State Bar and the United States District Court that same year. In addition, he passed the Georgia State Bar in 1999.
Stephen Wasserman, Director of Player Personnel:
Stephen has a wealth of experience in the basketball industry accumulating over 22 years as a coach, scout, advance scout, video editor, clinician, consultant, writer, and administrator. Stephen also is a 14 year veteran of NCAA Division I basketball coaching. He was a highly successful assistant Coach of the Santa Clara University and Colorado State University women’s teams.
Most recently, Stephan has coached professionally and internationally, serving as Director of Operations for the Eugene Chargers of the International Basketball League. He was selected as one of the Head Coaches of the 2007 IBL All-Star game. Stephen spent the 2008 season abroad as Consulting Director and Coach of the Barnet BBC, London.
Stephen has helped players find jobs in countries such as Japan, Finland, Norway, Luxembourg, Holland, and in various domestic minor leagues. His Eugene (IBL) players have gone on to play in places such as Mexico, Chile, UAE, New Zealand, Belarus, ABA, PBL, and more.
Donovan Silvermann, Director of Player Personnel:
Donovan is a 1989 Academic All-American graduate of Northeastern University with a double major in International Relations and German as well as having a minor in Spanish. He walked onto the team as a sophomore and became the Patriot League. After graduation, Donovan went on to a 9-year professional career in Europe. He retired in early 2001 and immediately began working as a European-based agent.
Donovan has established one of the most extensive networks in the European basketball industry through his years as a player and an agent and has developed personal relationships with coaches, general managers and teams in all of the premier markets in Europe. Through his contacts and own experience as a player and his ability to speak 3 languages, Donovan has the reputation where coaches and general managers from all across Europe trust his evaluations of players and value his honesty as well as knowledge of the European market.
James Smith, Director of Recruiting:
Jimmy handles athlete recruitment across the USA. He is an active member in the day-to-day activities with GBG draft prospects and free agents in developing customized statistical analysis for European teams and personnel, and also works closely with our clients in preparing video evaluations and breakdowns of workouts.
Christopher Smith, Director of Recruiting:
Christopher joined the agency in 2010 and works heavily in contacting potential clients that the agency would like to represent. His duties include: player scouting, player marketing, social media & daily operation tasks & duties.
Michael Williams, VP/Operations:
Michael is involved in the management of the company’s client roster, the recruitment of new clients and the negotiation of player contracts. In addition, Michael oversees the firm’s financial operations and administrative processes and organizes Global Basketball Group’s successful pre-draft training program.
Michael Smith, Director of Client Marketing:
Michael’s primary role at Global Basketball Group is to proactively procure, structure and consummate marketing endorsement opportunities for our clients. Michael actively manages the endorsement portfolios of more than 20 of our clients, and successfully negotiated more than one million dollars in marketing deals.
Michael Mitchell, Director of Client Marketing:
As a member of the marketing department, Michael primary responsibility is to find creative marketing and endorsement opportunities that enhance our clients’ brands.
Daniel Franklin, Director of Creative Services:
Daniel aids in coordinating the various aspects of our Rookie Training program. With a background in graphic and multimedia design, Daniel is able to create both personal and professional materials for various clients, such as wedding invitations, marketing proposals, and client logos.
Cedric Harris, Director of Client Maintenance:
Cedric’s role has continually expanded and includes working with all new rookie clients in the agency’s Rookie Training program. He plays an integral role as a mentor helping clients get established in their new cities while assisting them and their families with daily off-the-field activities and issues that may arise from time to time.
Anthony Martin, Director of Client Maintenance:
Anthony is a member of the client maintenance team and is tasked with assisting our clients in all aspects of their lives off the field. Anthony ensures all clients’ needs are met by providing each client with the highest level of service.
James Langford, Associate:
James assists in all facets of career development and advancement for all athletes at GBG. James also participates in contract negotiation and prepared summary and briefing material for athletic administrators and general managers.
Tajuan Williams, Associate:
Tajuan is an Associate at Global Basketball Group. Working alongside James (Langford) and James (Smith), Tajuan participates in scouting, marketing & client relations.
